Merrilyn McMillan 500: Part of something bigger
Merrilyn McMillan was the first person in Asia Pacific to volunteer at parkrun 500 times. In this short film to celebrate National Volunteer Week 2024 in Australia, Merrilyn explains how volunteering inside and outside of parkrun has boosted her confidence and empowered her to make a significant difference to the lives of others.

When Pat Kinsella was diagnosed with a terminal illness aged just 48, he decided to complete a marathon in his wheelchair to help raise awareness of his disease. Pat joined Logan River parkrun in Queensland to help with his training, before turning his hand to volunteering, and he has rarely missed a week since. This is Pat's story 🎥

Thousands of children take part in parkrun around the world every week as walkers, runners and volunteers. As part of parkrun's global commitment to child safety, all children at 5k parkruns who are under the age of 11 must take part within arm's reach of a parent or responsible adult chosen by the parent.

Yes it's such a shame parkrun seem hell bent on ruining a great initiative. Too scared to enter the gender debate and allow males to register as females and then just remove the stats to obfuscate.
What a legend!!! This is Torrens Parkrun isn't it? Really friendly and fun bunch when I did a tourist parkrun there a couple of years ago!

Parkrun was so important to my Dad. When he could no longer run or walk, he volunteered every week, until just two weeks before his death. Our parkrun family honoured him and continues to honour him. We are so grateful.
There is still hope. I know of a testimonial of someone in SouthAfrica who was diagnosed with MS many many years back. He did research, gradually got his health back, wrote a book and now has a health shop and his life mission is to help others. I will see if I can post a photo of his book's front cover and back cover. Otherwise : his name is Johan Jacobs and the title of his book is "GO NATURAL" .
